About the speaker:

Prof. Ze Zhang was elected as a member of Chinese Academy of Sciences on 2001. Now he is a professor in School of Materials Science and Engineering in Zhejiang University. Prof. Ze Zhang was born in Tianjin and graduated from the Department of Physics, Jilin University with degree of B.Sc. on 1980.  He got M. Sc., and Ph. D degrees from Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, on 1983 and 1987, respectively. He is a chief scientist of national basic research program of China, the president of China Association for instrumental Analysis, Chinese Electron Microscopy Society, and the president of Asia Pacific Electron Microscopy Association.

Prof. Ze Zhang has been working in the field of materials microstructure using electron microscopy correlated with the corresponding properties for more than 30 years. His research interests cover transmission electron microscopy study of microstructure and property of advanced materials, ranging from alloys, nano-wires, to thin films. Special interests on in-situ atomic resolution study of strain induced structural evolution and their impact on material’s physical properties. More than 200 papers have been published on international peer reviewed journals such as Nature, Science, Nat. Mater., Nat. Commun., Nano Lett., Adv. Mater., Phys. Rev. Lett., JACS, and Angew. Chem. Int. Ed.. He has been honored by the first prize in National Natural Science, China’s young scientists award and so on.
