6th Total Synthesis of Natural Products—Academic Conference for Youth (Chinese Chemical Society) was held at Nankai University from August 19th to 20th. The purposes of this conference are developing excellent academic traditions of scientists of the older generations and highlighting the important role of the synthesis of natural products in organic chemistry as well as building a favorable academic platform for communication for young scholars. The conference commissioned by Chinese Chemical Society was organized by State Key Laboratory of Elemento-organic Chemistry (Nankai University) and supported by National Natural Science Foundation and 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center of Chemical Science and Engineering(Tianjin). 78 experts and scholars from 43 universities and institutes of inland and Hong Kong China attended the conference.

    Prof. Jun Chen, dean of College of Chemistry, addressed an opening speech. Academician Guoqiang Lin from Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry (Chinese Academy of Science), Prof. Zhujun Yao from Nanjing University, Prof. Hongbin Zhai from Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School and Prof. Weidong Li from Chongqing University as special invited guests were present and gave instructions. Prof. Zhen Yang from Peking University, Prof. Yingjin Yuan from Tianjin University, researcher Biao Yu from Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry (Chinese Academy of Science) and Prof. Hongbin Zhang from Yunnan University delivered the reports of “Asymmetric Total Synthesis of (+)-19-dehydroxyl arisandilactone A”, “Regeneration of Eucaryotic Microbes Yeasts and Its Application in Chemical Methods”, “The First Total Synthesis of Immunosuppressant to Chinese Medicine—Periplocin”, “The Research on the Synthesis of Vindoline” respectively. Moreover, there were 20 young scholars in the conference who delivered excellent invited reports and 16 scholars who presented their splendid posters. A deep and comprehensive academic communication for the synthesis and functions of natural products had been discussed in the two-day conference.

    Prof. Chunming Cui, director of State Key Laboratory of Elemento-organic Chemistry, delivered his closing address to the conference and expected the next seminar at Southern University of Science and Technology(Shenzhen).
