On May 17, the fourth joint meeting of the organizers of the 54th International Chemistry Olympiad was held, online and offline. All members of the 54th International Chemistry Olympiad Organization Committee attended.

The meeting stressed that the preparations for the event should have an international focus]?]. The conference also elaborated on the meaning of the slogan ‘Change, Creation and Fusion’: to change the world's stereotyped impression of China, reaffirming China's position that science and technology should promote the well-being of all human beings. We should also encourage the younger generations to be more creative and innovative. Most importantly, ‘fusion’ as in the sense of broader communication amongst different cultures, genders, religions etc., is based on the value of being more ‘open minded’.

The meeting called for the publicity work of IChO should be focusing on spreading scientific ideas and scientific spirit as its duty, it should encourage and guide the young students to pursue truth, and to promote the whole society to build a good atmosphere to respect science, and respect for scientific expertise. To be specific, it is an opportunity to share the IChO history highlighting important IChO related individuals, scientists of historical IChO, and sharing their stories with the world, and to make IChO more accessible to people outside Nankai, Tianjin and China through IChO2022.

Prof. Chen Jun, chair of the Organizing Committee thanked everyone who is working hard to produce a successful event, and affirmed the staged progress of the organizing and preparation work of the 54th International Chemistry Olympiad. He also hoped that by hosting IChO2022, it would allow more people to explore the beauty of chemistry, to encourage young adults to enjoy studying chemistry with greater interest, and inspire them to have passion and enthusiasm for pursuing a scientific career in the future.

It is reported that the 54th International Chemistry Olympics is jointly hosted by China Association for Science and Technology and Tianjin Municipal People's Government, and jointly undertaken by Nankai University, Chinese Chemical Society, China Association for Science and Technology Youth Science and Technology Center and Tianjin Association for Science and Technology. The regular joint meetings of the organizers help to promote the communication and cooperation among all units more efficiently and provide a strong organizational guarantee for the joint running of the competition.
