On the morning of December 11, 2025, Professor Silvia Caro, Vice President of Universidad de los Andes (Colombia), led a delegation to visit the College of Chemistry at Nankai University. The accompanying members included Professor Dong Shuhui, the Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute and a professor of Chinese language and culture, as well as Professor Mauricio Sánchez-Silva from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Universidad de los Andes. Associate Dean Professor Xie Wei of the College of Chemistry warmly received the visiting guests at the Chemistry Building and presided over the exchange symposium.

During the symposium, Professor Xie Wei first extended a cordial welcome to the delegation led by Professor Silvia Caro. He provided a brief overview of the college's historical evolution, academic characteristics, and remarkable achievements in research, teaching, and internationalization in recent years. He mentioned that as a leading force in the field of chemistry in China, the College of Chemistry at Nankai University has always been committed to promoting international exchanges and cooperation in chemical education and research, and looked forward to establishing a long-term and stable cooperative relationship with Universidad de los Andes.
Professor Silvia Caro expressed her sincere gratitude for the warm reception from the College of Chemistry at Nankai University and spoke highly of the college's outstanding contributions in the field of chemistry. She introduced the practices and experiences of Universidad de los Andes in scientific research innovation and international education, stating that the purpose of this visit was to deepen cooperation between the two universities in chemical education, research collaboration, and cultural exchanges, and to jointly explore new models and pathways for international chemical education.
Professor Dong Shuhui, the Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute, shared the achievements and experiences of the Confucius Institute in promoting Chinese language and culture globally and facilitating educational exchanges between China and foreign countries. She expressed that the Confucius Institute was willing to serve as a bridge for cooperation between the two universities, promoting in-depth cooperation between China and Colombia in chemical education and cultural exchanges, and enhancing mutual understanding and friendship between the peoples of the two countries.
The two sides also engaged in preliminary discussions on potential future cooperative projects, including student exchange programs, joint research initiatives, and academic conferences, laying a solid foundation for in-depth cooperation between the two universities in the future.
This visit not only deepened the mutual understanding and friendship between Universidad de los Andes and the College of Chemistry at Nankai University but also opened a new chapter for comprehensive cooperation between the two universities in the fields of chemical education, research collaboration, and cultural exchanges.
